Please call the Health Department immediately if you suspect an algae bloom. There are many lakes that bloom each year. Environmental Health monitors levels of cyanobacterium, particularly anatoxin-a and microcystins, with on-going sampling at the King County Environmental Lab.
Anatoxin-a produces a potent toxin that affects the nervous system, while mycrocystins target the liver. These toxins can also affect pets so please be careful when a suspected bloom is observed.
If you are unable to contact the Health Department immediately, please report the bloom to the
Washington State Toxic Algae program.
