[ARCHIVED] Update to Recycling~ Cardboard does NOT need to be bagged for curbside pickup

Flatten Cardboard

The requirement to bag up your cardboard is no longer required for curbside pickup. Break down all boxes and if possible wrap some twine around them to hold them together.

Thank you all for helping keep the recycling program running with all of these changes happening. Republic Services is working hard to keep up to date on all safety recommendations and adapt as they change. We here at Solid Waste and Republic Services THANK YOU for doing your part! Cardboard is a recyclable material that still has a valuable market because it can be turned into so many products. Here are some facts on cardboard recycling:

  • Over half of the cardboard collected is used to make new cardboard boxes, and additional cardboard can be downcycled into paperboard (used for cereal boxes) or chipboard (used for shoe boxes)

  • Making 1 ton of virgin cardboard requires 3 tons of trees

  • Recycling 1 ton of cardboard eliminates 9 cubic yards of landfill space
