Klickitat County offers a wide variety of climates and elevations suitable to innumerable bird species. Waterfowl, hummingbirds and hawks are found in some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.

In fact, with white and blue birdhouses perched on fenceposts throughout the area, Bickleton is known as the "Bluebird Capital of the World".

Other noteworthy birdwatching areas include the upper Klickitat River which is an annual nesting area for numerous pairs of bald eagles. Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge, at the base of Mt. Adams, is a particularly rich layover point for migratory birds.
