NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING Notice is hereby given that the Board of Klickitat County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 1:30 PM on Monday, August 4, 2003 in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room, 205 S. Columbus, Room 101, Goldendale, WA 98620 to consider amending Klickitat County Code Chapter 8 “Health and Safety” by adding a new chapter 8.26 to be titled “Discharge and Use of Common Fireworks” At said hearing any interested individual may appear and be heard for or against said proposed amendment. A copy of the full text of the proposed Ordinance will be mailed upon request by calling 773-4612 or e-mail bocc@co.klickitat.wa.us. The Klickitat County Courthouse is accessible for persons with disabilities. Please call (509) 773-4612 if you will need any special accommodations in order to attend the meeting. Summary of the proposed ordinance: WHEREAS, RCW 70.77.395 provides that a county may enact an ordinance to limit or prohibit the sale, purchase, possession, or use of consumer fireworks that are more restrictive than state statute the enactment of which would not be effective no sooner than one year after the date of adoption; and WHEREAS, Klickitat County experiences extreme fire conditions due to the low levels of precipitation in late spring and early summer, wind conditions, and fuel loads necessitating the issuance of emergency orders restricting the discharge of common fireworks in previous years; and WHEREAS, the Board has determined that it is in the best interest of the citizens of Klickitat County to restrict the discharge of common fireworks within the unincorporated areas of Klickitat County to the days of July 4 only between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 11:00 P.M.; and from six o’clock P.M. on December 31 until 1:00 o’clock A.M. on January 1 of any year.
