Please call the Health Department immediately if you suspect an algae bloom. Historically, Klickitat County has one lake that blooms every year; Rowland Lake. Each year the Environmental Health program monitors levels of cyanobacterium, particularly Anatoxin-a and Microcystins. Anatoxin-a produces a potent toxin that affects the nervous system, while mycrocystins target the liver. These toxins can also affect pets, please be careful when a suspected bloom is observed.
If you are unable to contact the Health Department immediately, please report the bloom to the
Washington State Toxic Algae program.
